In December 1974, H. Patricia Hynes was a co-founder, with Gill (Gillian) Gane, of Bread & Roses: The Women's Restaurant, located at 134 Hampshire Street, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The only feminist restaurant in the Boston area at the time, it offered a place "for women and their friends," and served as a venue for weekly speakers, performers, and art exhibits.
